New Managing Director for Normek
Klaus Saarikallio, M.Sc (technology), who has been heading the Normek Group since 1991, is leaving his position as Managing Director. His successor, Vesa Marttinen, M.Sc (technology), was previously the Managing Director of Turku Repair Yard Ltd.
Marttinen will join Normek on 17 November 2014 and take up his role as Managing Director as of 1 December 2014. Klaus Saarikallio will continue in his position during the transition period and after that as a member of Normek’s Board of Directors and a major shareholder. Normek’s new Managing Director, Vesa Marttinen, draws on his experience gained primarily from international leadership positions in the maritime industry.
“After more than two decades, it is with a heavy heart that I’m ending my long career as the Normek Group’s Managing Director. Over the past decades, Normek has developed from a relatively small workshop into one of Finland’s and Sweden’s leading suppliers of steel structures and facades. I feel that this is the right time to make room for something new as the company enters the next stages of growth,” says Klaus Saarikallio.
“I will be leading a very experienced and professional team. I’m looking forward to moving from ship building projects to the interesting world of steel structures and facades. I believe my previous experience perfectly complements Normek’s organisation and, together with a competent team, I’m ready to take the company forward,” comments Vesa Marttinen.
“I would like to thank Klaus Saarikallio for his many years as Normek Group’s Managing Director. Our co-operation will continue on the Board of Directors. At the same time, I would like to welcome Vesa Marttinen as he takes on his new position. Our objective is to develop Normek into an industry leader in the Nordic countries,” says Erkki Norvio, the Chairman of the Board of Normek Group and Senior Advisor at Intera, the company’s largest shareholder.
